Who said Neurosurgeons cannot be cool. They discovered a new technique that will lead to new treatment options for those with brain cancer and give them hope for a better survival rate.
Neurosurgeons at Washington University in St Louis, discovered a technique using laser that breaks down the blood-brain barrier, which according to them is a natural “security system” that protects the brain from dangerous toxins in the blood, but also hampers the delivery of live-saving chemotherapy drugs.
Dr Eric Leuthardt, a professor of neurosurgery at Washington University in St Louis, said that this technique would lead to better pin-point ways to deliver effective drugs that will kill brain tumors from the inside.
There is hope to kill brain tumors in a more effective way.
What seemed like science fiction is moving forward and giving brain cancer patients hope. This technique using laser for brain cancer treatment is currently in Phase II clinical trials.
