Dental Orthodontists
An orthodontist is a dental specialist who has advanced training to correct malocclusions (“bad bites”). The most common treatment associated with orthodontists is repositioning of teeth through dental braces, although they may also perform surgery on the jaw, lips and/or face. Orthodontics are considered restorative work when the surgery corrects eating or speaking problems, and cosmetic work when the surgery is performed for the sole purpose of improving the appearance of a patient’s smile. Orthodontists can also fit patients with removable dental retainers, which can correct minor alignment issues but are more often used to keep teeth in proper position following the removal of braces.
