Dame Judi Dench Age-Related Macular Degeneration

77-year old British actress Judi Dench revealed that she has been suffering from age-related macular degeneration, and it has significantly affected her vision.

Dame Judi Dench is widely known in the James Bond franchise and Oscar winner.

According to the Daily Mirror, Judi Dench said: “I can’t read scripts anymore because of the trouble with my eyes. And so somebody comes in and reads them to me, like telling me a story. It’s usually my daughter or my agent or a friend and actually I like that, because I sit there and imagine the story in my mind.”

In a statement to Reuters she further added: “It’s something that I have learnt to cope with and adapt to — and it will not lead to blindness.”

What is Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)?

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a disease that affects an individual’s central vision. AMD is the most common cause of severe vision loss among people over 60. Because only the center of vision is affected, people rarely go blind from this disease. However, AMD can make it difficult of read, drive, or perform other daily activities that require fine, central vision.
