The health and environmental hazard posed by the 5 weeks of oil spill has devastated the Gulf region. Now BP intends on using the top kill to finally stop the oil leaks.
What exactly is top kill?
A “top kill” procedure is basically a way in which heavy drilling mud is pumped into the oil well to block the flow of oil. However, company officials have given the operation a 60 to 70 percent chance of success. They say the entire procedure could take up to two days.
BP agreed to continue providing a live video feed to the general public, showing the site of the well on the ocean floor during the top kill process. The company is telling viewers to expect “significant changes” in the oil flow during the procedure and says these changes “will not provide a reliable indicator of the overall progress, or success or failure, of the top kill operation
I hope it works, otherwise we will be in some challenging environmental mess for years to come. Regardless of what happens with its efforts, BP will now be known as “BIG POLLUTERS.”
