Diet to Reduce Cholesterol

It is recommended by doctors that those with high cholesterol should undergo therapeutic lifestyle changes besides medicines or medical procedures. With this diet, no more than 20 to 30 percent of your daily calories should come from fats, including saturated, trans, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats.
You should also have less than 200 mg a day of cholesterol, while eating foods high in soluble fiber that keep the digestive track from absorbing cholesterol. A diet high in fruits and vegetables, beans and lentils, whole-grain breads, rice and crackers will increase important cholesterol-lowering compounds in your diet. In addition, limit the amount of sodium (salt) that you eat as well as your consumption of alcoholic beverages.
