Incontinence Treatment Options
To treat incontinence, which more than 40 percent of all U.S. women experience, doctors may recommend surgical or nonsurgical methods. Nonsurgical treatments include:
- Lifestyle changes, such as limiting coffee, tea, soda and alcohol.
- Kegel exercises, which strengthen the pelvic floor muscles.
- Medication
Surgical therapies include:
- Outpatient urethral sling procedures
- Injection therapies with collagen, Coaptite and Botox.
- Minimally invasive surgery may also be used to treat conditions associated with incontinence, such as pelvic organ prolapsed.
If you experience incontinence, don’t be embarrassed to seek help. Consult your doctor, who can recommend a treatment that is tailored to you.
