New U.S. HIV Diagnosis Increases
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the emphasis on HIV testing at many emergency rooms could be a contributing factor to the increase in new United States HIV diagnosis. Though patients have to verbally consent to the HIV test, more are doing so, and are in better shape to address their illness and prevent further spread, plus they can start on anti-retroviral drugs. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), new U.S. HIV diagnosis went from 37,000 in 2006 to 42,600 in 2007.
