Lack of Sleep and The Common Cold
It seems like this news came a little late for me. I always knew that when I did not get enough sleep for many days in a row, I am more susceptible to the common cold, and right now I have been nursing a common cold for a week.
The findings of a new study published in the Jan. 12 issue of Archives of Internal Medicine, indicate that “less than seven to eight hours of solid sleep can lower your resistance to the common cold virus.” I don’t think I ever get 7 to 8 hours of solid sleep, even if I am in bed for 8 hours. I say more like 4 to 5 hours 90 percent of the time. Furthermore, lead author Sheldon Cohen, a psychology professor at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, said: “Regular sleep habits may play an important role in your immune system’s ability to fight off infectious disease.” Let me know when you finally figure out how to get 7 to 8 hours of solid sleep.
