Reducing Colon Cancer With Exercise
The biological mechanisms that seem to reduce colon cancer risk relating to exercise include:
- Increased transit time of food contents in the GI tract (decreasing the amount of time the GI tract could be exposed to cancer causing agents)
- Increases antioxidant defense system
- Decreases insulin and insulin-like growth factors (these may be responsible for tumor development in obese individuals)
- Enhances immune system function
