With Tiger Wood’s remarkable win today at the 108th U.S. Open, with a throbbing knee at San Diego’s Torrey Pines against Rocco Mediate, his arthroscopic knee surgery I would say was a success.

Arthroscopic Knee Surgery

As the world’s No. 1 player, you would expect the best care for his knees. Arthroscopic knee surgery is most commonly performed to remove torn cartilage within the knee. The procedure, called a menisectomy, is done using a small video camera attached to the arthroscope, which relays the view from within the joint to a video monitor, and allows the surgeon to remove the damaged cartilage through a small incision.

Conditions treated with arthroscopy include:

  • Bone spurs or loose bone fragments
  • Damaged or torn cartilage
  • Inflamed joint linings
  • Joint infections
  • Torn ligaments
  • Scarring or tissue overgrowth within joints
