Women who develop gestational diabetes during pregnancy, have another effective option besides insulin injections according to a new study released by researchers in New Zealand and Australia.

Today’s New England Journal of Medicine article indicates that doctors should use a more aggressive solution to the increasing rate of gestational diabetes among pregnant women.

Metformin is sold under its generic name, and also available by its Bristol-Myers Squibb brand name Glucophage.
