Drunkorexia

You may not know this term, while not medical, it is here:

Drunkorexia is a new term coined by dietitians who believe there is a link between binge drinking and eating disorders.

While it was more evident in Britain, it has crossed the pond so to speak, and now affects mostly weight-conscious women who offset the calories from heavy drinking by skipping meals. According to one recent study 30 percent of women aged 18 to 23 diet so they can drink.

Ann Fennell, a specialist dietitian in eating disorders, said: “But we also know that the incidence of anorexia is greater now than it has ever been, and that binge drinking is on the rise. Given that both alcoholism and anorexia have a shared emotional heritage, it’s reasonable to speculate about a link.”

More and more women are openly confessing their own methods of calorie off-setting, by counting the calories in what they drink and then subtracting them from the food they are allowed to eat. You may want to stay thin, but this is no way to diet. Popular websites such as fashion blog, Salon.com, and The Huffington Post news site, are now following the bandwagon and discussing this new trend.
