Scans show how anorexia is linked to specific patterns of brain activity:

Anorexia

Findings in the American Journal of Psychiatry, shows parts of the brain linked to anxiety and perfectionism in young women recovering from anorexia. The study also mentioned that anorexic young women who had maintained a healthy weight for over a year still had significantly different brain activity patterns.

Dr Walter Kaye of the University of Pittsburgh, said: “The anorexia group tended to have exaggerated and obsessive worry about the consequences of their behaviors, looked for rules where there were none and were overly concerned about making mistakes.”
