Test could save thousands of babies:
A simple saliva test designed to identify preeclampsia as early as possible to reduce the risks to both mothers and babies, is been developed by researchers in the UK. Preeclampsia is caused by a defect in the placenta, which joins mother and baby and supplies the baby with nutrients and oxygen from the mother’s blood. This condition kills a woman around the world every six minutes, and women most at risk include first-time mothers, the over-40s, the obese and those with a family history of preeclampsia.
