It is hard to avoid the growth of retail clinics – places where consumers can have routine medical complaints taken care off by a nurse practitioner, and at a lower price and faster than in a traditional physician’s office. Minute Clinic was an early player, opening clinics in urban Target stores, now Medicine Shoppe International Inc. has partnered with MindGent Healthcare Clinics to offer “Classic Care Clinics” in Medicine Shoppe and Medicap Pharmacy stores. Unlike the Minute Clinic model, MindGent Healthcare Clinics will offer local physicians the opportunity to invest in Classic Care Clinics, as well as to participate in a network as a referral physician, enabling them to garner referrals from the retail clinics, and to hire on to provide medical oversight to the clinic’s staffs. Yes, physicians are jumping into the retail clinic game for fear of losing out on the next big trend in consumer oriented healthcare.
