RSV in Infants
I’m just wondering how many mothers out there have or had infants who were infected with RSV. RSV is a virus that can cause symptoms ranging from an upper respiratory infection to pneumonia which can be quite serious. In the majority of cases, RSV causes cold-like symptoms that are very mild. Infants who are immunocompromised, premature, or just more susceptable can develop a pneumonia that usually just has to run its course. Since RSV is a virus, no antibiotic will treat it. Every child by the age of 2 will have been infected with RSV, most with symptoms mild enough that treatment is not needed. Currently there are vaccines available only for very susceptable children where an infection could be quite serious.
