Asthma and kids

I’ve worked on a pediatric floor as a nurse for many years and I am definitely seeing a trend. The incidence of children being diagnosed with asthma is increasing at an alarming rate. Most of the time it seems to be due to non compliance with medication but I am seeing more and more parents who smoke around their kids. These parents may not realize the dangers of smoking around their asthmatic child. Smoking increases the chances of their child having an asthmatic exacerbation which could be very dangerous. I advise parents to quit or at least smoke outside. If they must smoke, it is best to wear something over their clothes and then remove it before they come back inside.
